Description

A 11 basic analytical mill is a compact batch mill for two laboratory grinding methods. Impact grinding of hard, brittle or embrittled materials uses a stainless-steel beater rated up to Mohs hardness 6 and included in the delivery. Cutting grinding of soft, fibrous materials is performed with a cutting knife that is not supplied as standard. Moist or sticky feedstocks can be reduced by adding water during milling. The included grinding cup is made of Tefcel (glass-fibre-reinforced ETFE) with a stainless-steel inlet (1.4571) and offers 80 ml useful volume; it allows samples to be embrittled with liquid nitrogen directly in the grinding chamber. An optional 250 ml grinding cup is available for larger batches. This analytical mill from manufacturer IKA is supplied as one unit with a net weight of 1,500 kg and a gross weight of 2,070 kg, supporting flexible sample preparation across a wide range of material types in analytical laboratories.

This article is part of Mills, grinders & homogenisers, in Test sieves & mills.

Questions about A 11 basic, Analytical mill

What is this article?

A 11 basic, Analytical mill is the article on this page. Luminix Health distributes IKA for laboratory use. It sits in Mills, grinders & homogenisers, inside Test sieves & mills, in Lab instruments.

A mill, grinder or homogeniser reduces particle size or breaks a tissue before an extraction. The rotor and the sieve insert decide the result. A knife mill and a bead mill are different machines. The sample has to tolerate the heat the motor puts into it.

A test sieve sorts particles by whether they pass an opening. Wire mesh and perforated plate are two ways of making that opening, and the nominal size is not a suggestion. A sieve shaker repeats the motion so the result does not depend on how hard someone shook by hand. A mill or grinder makes the particles smaller before they are sieved. The certificate of the sieve, and the opening size, are what an audit asks for. Measurement practice around mass and dimension sits with the BIPM, EURAMET and BELAC.
